Here's our friend Andy Longfellow
of the UK with a bodacious 36 lb.+ Mirror Carp taken from a gravel
pit.
|
The mirror carp is an unusual
variation of cyprinus carpio with large scales seemingly randomly placed on its body, except
for the row of smaller scales on both sides of the dorsal fin. Though
most popular in Europe, the mirror carp and leather carp were brought over
to North America in the 1870's as a food fish, as these two species were
bred with two goals in mind - deep body for more meat and fewer scales
for easier cleaning.
|
|
Some
of these fish escaped into the wild, and either eventually reverted to
its original state, or maintained its mirror or leather appearance (thanks
MK). This carp t-shirt design features a burly, well-fed mirror of
euro-proportions on a heavy 100% cotton shirt.

Here's Chris
Labucki of Westfield, MA sporting his Mirror Carp T and a nice 17 lb. common
friend. This is actually a smaller fish for Chris, as he has pulled
in fish more than double this weight!
