From Pike fan Jim
dont know if you remember me I called you a while back when some shirts I ordered got hung up in the mail system when I moved from Virginia to Wisconsin. As you might recall I did eventualy get the shirts, (Night Stalker and Esox) just wanted to let you know that the shirts are fantastic!!! get plenty of comments on them, and dont hesitate to tell other fisherman where I got them. By the way I own River Smallies also. I wanted to find out if you had any plans to make a Pike (Water Wolf) shirt anytime in the future?? I woul love to see you do one and would be interested in purchasing several! I belong to the Wisconsin chapter of Pikemasters and at recent get together we had in Sturgeon Bay, WI. many people commented on the Musky shirt and wanted to know if you did Pike, So I thought I'd ask if you might be interested. Pikemasters has chapters in 12 States, and while I could not name them all at this moment they include Mich, Ohio,NY, and Wi. Anyway please reply and let me know. Keep up the good work!!!!
Thanks
Jim

friend of new carp angler
Hello, my name is Daniel Coley who is 15 years old. I have been fishing for
quite alot of years, recently i have been interested in big fish such as
carp. Yesterday i went fishing with my two friends and there uncle to his
private pool. I set up my rod using 10 lb line with a in line lead and a hair
rig, for my bait i used whisky flavoured bolies, i had my bait in for 20
minutes until i started having a bite. Then my monkey climber shot up and my
rod was almost going in, i was nervous because it was the first big fish i
ever had, it took me 5 minutes to land it, when it came out i found out that
it was a 11 1/2 lb common carp and my friend who i mentioned is also a
member of this site, soon me and my friend will be putting photos of our
catch.

from a new carp angler
I am a 11 yr old angler and I seem to be taking a likening to big game
carp fishing. It all started when I was on holiday, I saved my money and
brought a Ron Thompson superior carp rod just to start me off and when I got back
my uncle asked me and my brother if we wanted to go to his pool for a fish,
so we said yes. When we got there I casted out with a small chunk of meat
on my hair rig and so did my brother but he was using a boilie and with in 5
minutes of fishing my brother had landed a 11 lb linear mirror carp and
five minutes after I landed a 8 lb 8 oz perfectly scaled common carp which
just put a smile on my face.
P.S I found this web site and it is the best fishing website I have ever
came across ever.

I'm not much for catching or eating carp, but I find it amusing they stick their heads
out of the water and beg for food at the marina. And I think you have great designs too! -

Greetings from Victoria, Australia
Hi Jim,
I love your website as it brings back fond memories from my youth when we went carp fishing
most weekends as a family. The pics are wonderful, the proud look on the angler's faces made
my day, and so did the carp in the photos. Carp here in Australia is considered to be a
vermin. So when I see this wonderful fish thrown out on the river banks and just left to rot,
it makes me feel so sad and wishing I'd been there when it was freshly caught. I enjoy eating
Carp, specially marinaded with garlic and fried in breadcrumbs. YUM YUM.
I would love to here from anyone who has a favorite Carp recipe.
Happy carping

new flathead catfish hunter
Hello fellow Flathead hunters. I was introduced to the sport last summer. I was kind of bored sitting in the dark swatting mosquitos when my medium weight freshwater rig nearly jerked out of my hand and the line snapped. With the largest splash i've ever heard out side a swimming pool water rained down on me. Needless to say I'm hooked for life now armed with heavier rig I still lose fish! How big do these things get? I'm glad to find fellow flatheaders. will right again soon.

on carp fishing from Tamer, in Turkey
...I have caught so many carps so far but some of them were really big ones. We generally struggle to catch them for long time. Sometimes it can take us a few days. We use different types of fishing equipment from yours. We use 70 to 100 m. lines, 0.80 to 0.90 cm. We form a kind of small lasso at the end of the line. And we use sunflower pulp as bait. This pulp is obtained from
sunflower after its oil is taken. When it is done the remain of sunflower is pressed and so it turns into a hard material having still a little oil inside. First it is in the form of round and very hard. We cut it in pieces of 5 cm to 6 cm. We tight these pieces with lasso. The hooks are around these pieces. We throw them away as we can do. When bait sinks in water it begins to melt slowly and it gives some oil. As it melts it
gives smell around it and carps gather around it and begin to suck dust of bait. While doing this carps take one or two hooks (sometimes more) into their mouths. This bait is too hard and it can stay in water 24 hours so, it is not necessary to change or control bait. We use at least 10-15 equipment while fishing.
After throwing them into water we tie the lines to the sticks and we hang a small bell to each one and then we begin to wait. That is to say , we do not hold any line in our hands. We talk about our adventures related to the earlier activites and drink tea and have our meals in fresh air in nature. When a carp is caught it pulls line and the small bell rings. That moment is the most exciting time. At that moment a sudden and exciting rush begins. I love that moment. I can hear the sound of bell in my sleep. I like fishing in this way beause it not tiring and save time to do other things while fishing. Generally we sleep at night after 1:30 in summer because carps are not caught after this time. Even they are caught we hear the sounds of bells. In summer best time to catch them is dawn. But in winter, afternoon. I hope I did not write too long. Could you tell me if you use the bait we use and the catching style?
Thank you very much |

from carper Mellissa, UK
Hello carp people out there, we as English carp anglers think it is a really good thing that you have a carp classic tournament somewhere other than Europe. In every other website that we have looked on outside Europe have the attitude that carp are vermin and that they are no good to anyone - we think that they are very intelligent and shy creatures, whom when caught you feel that you are privalaged(excuse the spelling!) to have caught one. This is coming from a female angler who appreciates the sport alot, I fish when ever I can, but I live in the south west so waters are limited, it would be good to recive any mail from those who have opinions about anything in the carp world. My biggest is 37lb so far!!!

Jim,
I put bigfish in a search engine, visited a couple of sites and eventually found yours.
I live on St. George Island (22 mile long barrier island in Florida) and am constantly
searching for the big ones. My friends kid me when we fish because while they're catching
smaller redfish (for example) I'm content to sit and wait by my pole baited with a 3/4 lb. live
mullet. I may wait awhile watching them reel them in but when my pole bends over and the
drag starts squeeling all eyes are on me.
Your site was loaded with pictures of big fish from all over the U.S. and I'm writing simply to
say how much I enjoyed it.
Thanks

Hello from upstate N.Y.
Six flags Darien Lake has beautiful giant carp in its many small lakes in excess of 20, 30, 40lbs. Bread balls worked for a coworker of mine. I usually fish for bass, but next year I'll give it a shot. I did'nt know there was such an interest in these monsters. They cry when caught or make a sad noise. Putting them back is humane for these grassing fish. N.Y. has wonderfull fishing. Thanks for another fishing website.

Hi Jim,
I am an enthusiastic angler of carp from Taiwan. I ran across your site two days ago. It is very interesting. From now on I may learn some different techniques for carp fishing in addition to those I've experienced in Taiwan. Your T-shirt and hat are interesting too. I've ordered each of them. Carps are also beautiful in Taiwan. Come and see them someday.

the pain of catching carp...
Hi. This here rant is about trying
to catch carp.
I grew up in Southern Ontario
(Canada) and used to summer at a cottage on Lake ontario. The carp grew
to massive size there, and while we caught lots of bass, pike and walleye,
Carp were a completely different matter.
Only a couple of times did we
hook into carp in many years of fishing, and that was using worms. The
locals used to claim they could catch them using popcorn (sprayed with
perfume -- seriously!!); we tried it, but as you might imagine, it didn't
stay on the hook too well. They also told us that cornmeal -- rolled up
into balls, mixed with eggs -- would work.
The local farmers where we fished,
acknowledging the finicky nature of these mighty beasts, would catch them
in a much more direct method -- using a pitchfork off the dock, a bow and
arrow, or by intentionally snagging them as they lay dozing in the shallows.
Carp are a bitch to catch by hook.

Hi Jim !! Just found your website

since I'm not really into fishing. I'm a multi-media gyotaku artist.
Do you know Mineo Yamamoto? He has the International Fish Printing

did a horse(alive). It turned out really good. They are
going to do a whale this spring!! Do you belong to the Nature printing

hello from the Carpslayer
in Utah:
Hello Jim, my name is Dan, I live
in Utah and I fish almost exclusively for Carp. They are my favorite
species. I also fish for stripers, catfish, tarpon, bonefish, sturgeon,
largemouth, smallmouth, sunfish, northern, trout, and basically any thing
that swims. About 90 percent of my fishing is with a fly rod, especially
for Carp. I live where there is some very good Carp fishing.
There is a giant lake with water
the color of the caribbean and endless white sand flats. The carp
are all fully scaled mirror carp with the giant scales. I have fished
the Keys, Sea of Cortez, and the Yucatan and those carp flats on that lake
are as much fun as any of them. The fish average about 8 lbs., but
some get up around 20. There are also many other lakes such as Lake
Powell that are excellent for carp - we have even caught many on the surface.
There is a spot about 20 min.
from my house that is a warm spring with carp that I fish in the winter
- it is all mud flats so a canoe is best. Last spring I gave my self
a flats skiff and had the best summer of fishing yet. I am getting
cabin fever bad, can't wait for spring. Well it's good to know there
are other carp lovers out there. I like the hats and shirts I should
order something. Long live the CARP - the bigger the better.
GOOD FISHING, DAN THE CARPSLAYER. |
